Follow us to win
We’re proud of what we do here at Rotosound and believe that our small factory in the corner of England produces some of the best music strings in the world. We want you to help spread the word so are giving out a prize each month to followers of our Instagram page.
But first, get to know us better…
We’ve been making music strings in Kent, England, since 1958 and still use the same time-honoured techniques that made strings for legends such as Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd back in the sixties.
Ever at the forefront of music string manufacturing, Rotosound’s founder James How developed the roundwound bass guitar string with The Who’s John Entwistle. His son, Jason, continues to build Rotosound’s specialist machinery and perfect the art of the music string. To keep our strings fresh, we now use sealed foil packaging (without paper envelopes, which can cause corrosion). This is the industry’s lightest packaging and has massively reduced the carbon footprint of our delivery chain.
OK, enough about us…

HOW TO RECYCLE GUITAR STRINGS
We love our planet as much as music! As a responsible manufacturer, we implement these initiatives to reduce waste entering landfill:
REDUCE
Since 2016, Rotosound has packaged its strings in sealed foil packs. Comprising of only the outer packet and a silica gel pouch, these use 90% less packaging material than the previous string cartons.
Not only does this mean fewer materials need to be produced and shipped around the world, but it also results in fewer strings being disposed of as the airtight foils significantly prolong string life.
REUSE
Rotosound works with companies such as The Guitarwrist, a not-for-profit, sustainability company that makes jewellery from played strings. 100% of the profits go to charity.
RECYCLE
Depending on where in the world you are, Rotosound string packaging can be easily recycled.
Follow the country-specific guidance below or recycle Rotosound string foil packaging like crisp packets (for our American players, that’s potato chip bags!):
Everyone in the UK can recycle Rotosound string packaging at supermarket plastic bag recycling points. Some local authorities include foil packaging in household recycling bins.
Use this tool to see whether you can recycle Rotosound string packaging at home or find your nearest recycling point.
Kerbside plastic film collections from all workplaces and households will also be introduced by 31 March 2027.

In the US, plastic bags, wraps, and films aren’t accepted in most curbside or drop-off programs.
Check if there are any special recycling programs or drop-off locations in your area that accept chip bags. Some companies or organisations may have specific recycling initiatives for these types of packaging.
In Canada, flexible plastics like grocery bags and other wrappings can be recycled through store drop-off programs and some municipal recycling services. Recycle BC in British Columbia, for example, manages a province-wide program where residents can drop off Flexible Plastics at designated depot locations.
