REACTION / JOE WHYTE
Reaction are a punk rock band originally from Airdrie, Scotland. Formed in late ‘78 by a teenage Ian Carson (vocals) and John Bryson (drums), as well as an ever-changing line-up of guitar and bass incumbents they quickly became the most notorious band in the area due to riotous, alcohol-fuelled shenanigans and a refusal to kow-tow to virtually anyone in authority.
Gigging with fellow locals External Menace, Oi Polloi and many others, Reaction’s frantic, no-nonsense approach made them firm favourites and although record company enquiries were made, the band’s chaotic lifestyle and equally wild following put many off before the eventual dissolution of the band.
Reforming in 2012 for a couple of “covers” benefit gigs, the two original members recruited ex-school mate and previous member of 78 Airdrie punks End Result and The Snap-Ons, Joe Whyte (whom Ian Carson “blames” for Reaction actually forming in the first place!).
Realising that they “had something”, the new version of Reaction have been putting together a set and album for release this year. Provisionally titled Accelerator the album sees Whyte and Carson collaborating on new songs such as Patti Hearst Said, Johnny Weissmuller’s Blues, Dead Boy Racer and impending single Faster.
Having played with The Saints, Primevals, Cockney Rejects, Eddie And The Hotrods, The Vibrators and many others this last year, the band look forward to a tour to promote Accelerator in 2016. Reaction have been confirmed for several festivals in 2016, including Rebellion, the worlds biggest punk music festival.
Reaction are signed to Tarbeach Records NYC.
