NICK KERSHAW / PAUL GEARY

Paul started his playing career comparatively late; having had no formal music training at school started playing bass in a gospel church at the age of 18. Shortly after this went on to study music in the USA.

Paul is an honours graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston USA, and B.I.T, Musicians Institute of Technology in Los Angeles California. Upon return to the UK Paul quickly established himself as one of the UK’s foremost studio bassists and active session musician.

In 1991 he received his first break working with soul diva’s Lisa Stansfield and Gabrielle.

Shortly after this in 1992 went on to work with Jools Holland and Chris Rea.

In 1993 Paul was voted Best “New Musician” by the British Music Association. And that autumn started playing bass for Chris Norman in his own band, the former lead singer of Smokie.

1994 brought with it relocation to London to head up the Academy of Contemporary Music’s bass school.

Paul still finds time in his busy schedule to lecture live performance workshops on the full time courses at the Academy. He is also a contributor for Guitar Techniques & Bass Guitar Magazine.

Three years later in 1997 Paul records a new studio album and tours with Nik Kershaw. 1999 sees a second album with Nik.

The next three years are busy with session work and tours with George Michael, The Lighthouse Family, Geri Halliwell, Dane Bowers (another level) and A1.

The summer of 2002 brings change working with a number of bands as ‘Music Director’ signed to Polydor, Sony, EMI, and Warner Music. These include Sophie Ellis Bextor, Liberty X, Clarkesville, Enrique Iglesias, Phix, Dside, Blazing Squad and Rachel Stevens (x s club 7) Simply Red, Donny & Marie Osmond ITV1, Mary J Blige.

Paul is in demand as a music director and bassist and has been a Rotosound endorsee since the mid 1990’s
