Double Bass Monel and Nylon Flatwound

Speaking length: 1450mm / 57”

Total length: 1930mm / 76”

A great set for jazz and rockabilly styles of playing – super flexible and easy to play in all positions.

The E and A are Monel flatwound on a nylon core producing a strong, deep bass tone. The D and G strings are nylon on a nylon core for a smooth tone with easy bendability.

On the double

In production since 1958 under Rotosound’s original moniker Orchestral & Jazz Strings, our RS4000 “Superb” Double Bass strings have been chosen by players for their powerful low end and smooth treble.

Over the years our Double Bass have been heard in the hands of orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, and the London Symphony, jazz pioneers like Gene Wright and Spike Heatley, as well as chart toppers Herbie Flowers and Russ Pritchard.

British quality

Manufactured in the UK by highly skilled string-makers, our RS4000 Double Bass strings are renown for their consistent tone and performance.

Every Double Bass string is still manufactured the ‘old fashioned way’ by hand on machines that James How built at the end of the 1960s.

Mighty Monel

Monel is an alloy of nickel and copper and brings to our strings the benefit of a strong tone and resistance to corrosion.

The build spec remains a close kept secret but the Monel 400 tape used in our Double Bass, Jazz Bass 77, and Top Tape strings brings out their true character over the much less costly flattened stainless steel.
