ARTIMUS PYLE / TONY BLACK
Tony Black started playing in Punk bands when he was fifteen, and in five years was touring America with Southern California Punk / Crossover Metal legends Dr.Know.
Tony toured and recorded with guitar virtuoso Buckethead, while in San Francisco and Los Angeles through the 90’s, and enjoyed the cult like success of this project.
After moving to Southern California Tony attended The Los Angeles College of Music under the guidance of Alphonso Johnson, Ed Lucie, and Jerry Watts. Tony was inspired by the community of international students at LACM.
After graduation Tony performed with Eyedentity featuring Flora Purim and Airto Moriera, and discovered the beauty of Brazilian Jazz Fusion.
Always looking to explore new horizons on Bass, Tony has accepted opportunities to play in a wide variety of situations. Hip Hop, Jazz, RnB, Cuban, Brazilian, Celtic, Indy, Bluegrass, Southern Rock, Country, Americana, Blues, Funk, Alternative, EDM, Experimental, Psychedelic Dub, as well as some Theatre or Cruise Ship gigs.
It has always been a goal for Tony to be a well rounded bassist capable of creating authentic feel for all styles.
Tony began playing with original Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle in 2005, which has led to Tony sharing the stage backing up such Iconic figures as Jimmy Hall, Warren Haynes, the Marshall Tucker Band, and many more. The Artimus Pyle Band is currently touring select venues and events, and is widely believed to be the most exciting representation of Ronnie Van Zandt’s original band.
