THE BEAT / ANDY PEARSON
Bit of a potted history, Growing up in Coventry in the two tone explosion I knew and played with a lot of the soon to be members of the various Two tone bands.
It really was like a little Motown there for a while.
I had played in “The Two Tone Collective” which was made up from revolving ex members of “The Selecter” “the Specials” and “The Beat”and through this had met Ranking Roger From the Birmingham based Ska Band “The Beat” He formed a band Made from 3 ex Beat members and asked me to come in Within a few months it turned into a fully fledged Beat reformation with a sold out show at The Royal Festival Hall being recorded and released as a DVD.
This led us to realise that with a fanbase so loyal and eager that we should carry on and 12 years later we are still selling out shows all over the world.
Some of the highlights being, playing in Japan Supporting bands like “Public Enemy” and “Oasis”. Playing in Abu Dhabi before the Grand Prix on the bill with “Prince”.
Playing some club shows with Ska/Reggae legend “ Desmond Dekker” Getting up and playing bass with The Skatalites for a couple of tunes, being able to go to a Apartheid free South Africa and play to great mixed audiences.
Playing at Hyde Park in the series of concerts for last years Olympics and in Trafalgar Square for the Para-olympics on a wonderful stage built around Nelsons Column.
Other Bands I have been in have been, the New York based “The Toasters” Touring solidly for two years mostly in the USA.
“The Neville Staple Band” and “The Special Beat” The latter having some great tours of Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
The Beat are at the moment recording some new material and have a heavy gigging schedule.

SM66 Swing Bass
My choice of Bass strings is so important to me, Rotosound SM-66 Gauge 40-100 have been the string I have used for all my career, Ive tried other makes but nothing has the tone and more importantly for me the tension of Rotosound.
